MINI Side Skirt Information

Some information about parts required and method used to install new side skirts on the MINI.

Fixing Clips

Having scoured MINI2 and RealOEM, here is a list of part numbers for the clips required which I’ll be ordering in to try fitting S skirts:

51 71 1 496 621 x 8 (under the tread plate, 4 per side, re-usable but new ones fit better)

07 13 7 073 915 x 4 (white, 2 per side, at rear of skirt, not re-usable, are already fitted to brand new skirts)

07 13 1 480 419 x 18 (black, 9 per side, not re-usable, are already fitted to brand new skirts)

07 13 0 702 966 x 16 (underneath the sill, 8 per side, re-usable but worth having new ones)

Side Skirts

In addition, other parts of interest may be:

51 71 1 491 056 x 1 Cooper S side skirt right 51 71 1 491 057 x 1 Cooper S side skirt left

both of these come already fitted with the ‘915′ and ‘419′ clips.

Tread Plates

The side skirts above are ‘blank’, and you need your choice of:

51 71 7 077 174 x 2 Cooper S tread plates 51 71 7 052 127 x 2 Cooper tread plates 51 71 7 052 125 x 2 MINI One tread plates 51 71 0 154 680 x 2 Aero Kit tread plates 51 71 0 305 557 x 2 John Cooper Works plates 51 47 0 302 683 x 1 Pair of illuminated MINI logo plates 51 47 0 302 686 x 1 Pair of illuminated Cooper S plates 51 47 0 404 911 x 1 Pair of illuminated JCW plates 51 14 7 168 907 x 1 Checkmate plate Left Hand Side 51 14 7 168 908 x 1 Checkmate plate Right Hand Side 51 14 7 168 906 x 2 Park Lane tread plates 51 14 7 168 905 x 2 Seven tread plates

Fitting Side Skirts

With the bits and bobs you need above, you should then follow the instructions here in MINI2’s DIY section.

Helpful Hints

  • When removing the 4 clips under the tread plate, it is easier if you rotate them 90° using a pair of long nose pliers.
  • The clips underneath have a Philips head, but you might need to use a thin flat blade screwdriver to pop them out if they won’t undo.
  • There is a Philips head metal screw on the underneath of the skirt at the rear with attaches it to the rear wheel arch trim.
  • The clips remaining after you’ve snapped them off need to be rotated 90°, although some of them are very tricky and need to be destroyed using pliers.
  • There will be some bits of clip rattling about inside the sill, you can pop out the two rounded rectangle rubber bungs and fish out the bits of plastic. Remember to put the bungs back in! ;)
  • WD40 is very good at dissolving the glue/foam used on the tread plates if you want to reuse them 8)
  • To make sure all the clips are located when installing new skirts give the sides a thump all the way along
