Here it is, my shiny new Mini. Well, it’s not exactly new - it’s a June 2004 model, but it’s done just 15,000 miles (and just 5,000 of those with the Works kit) and is absolutely immaculate and drives like a brand new car
It’s just pre-facelift, so it’s got (in my view) the best combination of the pre- and post-facelift specification - it’s still got a roof clock, but has the updated onboard computer, etc.
Specification:
- Mini Cooper S with John Cooper Works Tuning Kit, 210 bhp
- Liquid Yellow, black roof and mirrors
- Chili Pack - usual Cooper S goodies of air con, half leather, three spoke steering wheel, Xenon headlights, etc
- 17″ S-spoke alloys - to be replaced by my R99s, probably refurbished in black or anthracite
- Works front brakes
- Multifunction Steering Wheel
- BOOST Mini Disc player - to be replaced by 2005 BOOST CD Player
- 6 CD Changer - to be replaced by ice>Link Plus iPod kit
- Harman Kardon upgraded stereo system
- Clear rear light clusters - to be replaced by original red/orange clusters

Apart from the bits I’ve said will be replaced in the list above, I’ll probably also fit a facelift smooth chrome grille surround, and the under-dash storage tray. Longer term I might look at painting the dash in piano black (perhaps with yellow uprights) and acquiring a set of facelift xenon headlights.
But for now, I’m happy to drive it and enjoy the wailing supercharger

Well, I finally drove a Cooper S Works today
To be precise this one, a 2003 model with the 200bhp kit:

What can I say? I’m hooked - I must have one, ideally a 210 in Chili Red, Indi Blue, Pepper White or Liquid Yellow - the hunt continues

I’ve today upgraded the CD player in my Cooper to the later January 2005-on specification CD player which supports the display of artist/title information from the ice>Link:Plus iPod integration kit (which I’d already fitted with the old CD player last year).
The biggest problem I had was finding the updated firmware for the module, it was hiding deep inside Dension’s USA website. So I’m providing a copy of it here: ice>Link:Plus Firmware V2.B2 for text support on BMW/MINI OEM Stereos.

Well, university finished for me just over a month ago, I finally graduated on Friday June 30th 2006 after 4 years at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. So I am now officially:
Martin Lewis B.A. (Hons), M.Eng. (Cantab)
As a graduation present to myself I finally got the new wheels on my MINI Cooper. I decided to go with non-runflat 17″ tyres in the end, largely because of cost and also to try and prevent the ride becoming too harsh after the upgrade from 16″ to 17″ wheels. The tyres I chose were Falken Ziex ZE512 205/45R17 which are the same size as the OEM runflat fitment, but nearly one third of the price!
Anyway, see the results for yourself - I’m really pleased as they’re a bit different to the normal large wheels fitted to MINIs, so mine now looks a bit special
